Canto Wines

Canto wines is a boutique winery situated in the rolling hills of Durbanville where boutique wines are produced and quality takes first place over everything else. A picturesque drive-in through the vineyards lies a special place to be discovered – Canto wines! Canto wines came about when local owner Marinus Neethling had the opportunity to attain a piece of land in the picturesque Durbanville wine valley. Being an avid wine enthusiast, the quality of vineyards inspired what we have today as Canto boutique winery. Canto Wines believe in quality before quantity; our wines are thus made with meticulous effort in order to ensure the end product has pure fruit, a richness in texture and complexity while being approachable.

Specializing in Cap Classique, visit us for our signature Cap Classique & macaron pairing, or opt for our wine or Cap Classique pairing. If you are feeling a bit nibblish, why not enjoy a platter from our deli with an assortment of cold meats, cheese and condiments or build your own picnic and enjoy the perfect setting outside overlooking the beautiful winelands mountain.

Order a delicious pizza for takeaway every Friday, Saturday & Sunday or sit down and enjoy it with a bottle of your favourite Canto wine. Canto now also offers a non-alcoholic pairing (our delicious gourmet macarons paired beautifully with artisan tonic water) so kids, designated drivers, preggie ladies and people who don’t prefer to drink can now also join in the tasting.

Meet the Makers

Wine Maker
Anneke Potgieter
As far as I can remember, vines intrigued me.

I qualified as a medical technologist specializing in microbiology. My career started in medical micro labs, then took a turn to a water reclamation plant in Windhoek. Here I met my husband, got married and moved to Cape Town and worked in a dairy plant.

Kids came and while they were little, I became a “stay at home mom”. When my eldest left university I did a few courses at the Wine Academy at Stellenbosch and the opportunity arise to spend a harvest in the cellar. And just like that I was hooked onto winemaking! I went back to Bellevue cellar every harvest after that and did 5 harvests in France (4 harvests in Loire and 1 in Bordeaux).

in September- I wanted to learn as much as possible in as short a possible period.

Why do I love it? I love the the full circle of the wine making process- from soils, micro climates, different weather conditions up to the wine making.

My philosophy on winemaking is: observe and let the grapes lead you.

As a family we love outdoor activities- running, mountain biking, tennis and (lately), camping. Reading and music is our ‘wind down’ relaxation! The daughters are married and we have four grandsons, whom we enjoy with great pleasure.

Advice for the youth: dream big, but follow your dream with realistic caution.
